Their reading comprehension mastery was low and they needed a long time to understand a reading text, even short text. The research problem of the study was how the implementation of Shared Reading strategy in teaching can improve the students’ reading comprehension and their reading interest at MTS Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru. The objective of this study was to improve the students’ reading comprehension in order to understand the text efficiently and effectively. It was done by implementing the Shared Reading strategy. The design of this research is a quasi experiment design with pre-test and post-test procedure. There was a try out before the test, then it was continued by validity and reliability test using SPSS computer program. The total population is 141 students of MTS Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru. This research applied a cluster random sampling technique to get samples. The total sample is 51 students. The sample is divided into two groups;the experimental group and the control group. Then, the data were analyzed using t-test method to find out whether there is significant difference between the experimental groups taught conventionally. The research results, the writer found that significant probabilities was higher than 0.05 (< 0.005) in both paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test, it mean that there is significant different on students’ reading comprehension and reading interest in pre-test of both classes and in post test of both classes, and there is significant different of students’ reading comprehension and reading interest pre-test and post-test of experimental class. Besides, the value of eta square of students’ were (0.91) reading interest showed the effect size was strong effect and the value of eta square of students’ in reading comprehension were ( 0.87) showed the effect size was modest effect. In other words, there is significant effect of using Shared Reading strategy toward reading comprehension andi t is strong effect in students’ reading interest in reading descriptive text.
